descomponer / regenerar
#3: regenerar la ciudad

In this third edition of “descomponer / regenerar,” we ventured beyond the studio to explore the regeneration of urban space in all its complexities.

We created regenerative sculptures with ale butrón landivar, incorporating microorganisms from the mountains, compost from the Materia Abierta garden, and other natural elements.

We took a walk through the neighborhood with Leto Delher, identifying not only edible wild plants growing on the sidewalks, but also exploring how the city decomposes and regenerates, and how perception can be a counter-hegemonic tool for reinterpreting space.

We offered gifts to the soil with our microorganism sculptures. During our walk through the neighborhood, we enjoy delicacies made with quelites while conversing with Beatriz Paz Jiménez about the resilience of these plants. From the perspective of our own bodies and digestive systems, this participatory activity challenged standardized notions of commensality in urban contexts.

We concluded the day at Libraría Amoxtli, a self-managed, cooperative cultural center, with herbal infusions, desserts, and a discussion about how to regenerate the fabric of the city. We sought to reframe our experience of walking through a neighborhood undergoing rapid gentrification, and our activities within a broader context, problematizing the false dichotomy between urban and rural.
